Why do people ask, “Why is your coffee better than mine?”
For generations, people have been in love with coffee. For nearly 250 years, as far back as the pilgrims and their switch away from tea after the Boston Tea Party, people have been savoring this delicious brown liquid (AKA Coffee).
The "café" culture was born When European immigrants, who wanted to sip on a "comfort" beverage while with friends. The idea of specialty coffee shops wasn't a thing in the United States until Starbucks in 1971.
Skip ahead 50 years, and coffee in the US is in the midst of another revolution. Enter Craft Coffee.
It's Bean Called Java is at the forefront of this worldwide love of Craft Coffee. On the outside, this new classification of coffee can come across as pretentious, or that "Craft Coffee" must come with a higher price point. This is far from the truth!
To give a better understanding, and hopefully tickle your taste buds, in this new and exciting Craft Coffee craze, let us help you better understand what exactly Craft Coffee is, and what "Craft Coffee" really means – not just to us, but to the amazing people that make it possible for us all to enjoy the best coffee(s) anywhere on this beautiful planet we call home.
In every region, when it comes harvest time, family farms and brokers start the process of grading. This "grading" judges the visual appearance of the bean as well as the complexity of flavors, and overall taste of the roasted product. The beans are graded using a 100 point scale system. Coffees that score higher than 80 are given a “specialty” grade. These coffees are grown in ideal climates, and in specific regions that create unique flavor profiles.
Although we believe that grade is an important element of craft coffee, it's so much more than that. It's the people that are responsible for creating such a unique coffee experience. We do only buy specialty grade coffees through our brokers, but to us, these coffee(s) wouldn't be nearly as delicious if it weren't for the incredible individuals that nurture the coffee as they grow. In our opinion, the grade our coffee receives wouldn't be as nearly as high, without the people that make it possible. Craft Coffee starts with our family farms.
Small batch roasting allows us to have a much greater precision of control in the outcome of their beans. Large-sized roasters will often over-roast or under-roast beans. This can lead to sourness, bitterness, or a burnt coffee bean and flavor.
Small batches enable us to roast with care and attention to detail, allowing consistent quality every time. Assuring that the best flavors in every cup.
